Outrage is a good thing. It means you still care. For my daily outrage, stop by when you can.

Wait Til They Hit 40
Spent nice Easter holiday with my family. And March Madness has taken up a lot of my free time. But couldn't miss posting about this game.

Neverending Questions
Contaminated heparin. So not the article a woman wants to read three and half years after burying her seemingly healthy, 44-year old husband and best friend of almost 18 years from a second heart attack. For the first one, they pumped him so full of heparin that they couldn't operate on him for two days - a tremendous amount of time to go by when it comes to heart muscle damage.
And no one but me and the ICU staff saw the effects of the post-operative "infection" that caused his temperature to spike to 106 at one point. It was attributed to a staph infection - they believe came from the pump they placed inside him, on top of his heart (yes, I talked to a lawyer and no there was nothing to be done about it). Could it have been an allergic reaction to heparin instead? Sigh.

Where's The Violin?
Wow. Dropped off my tax documents today. My accountant actually used the word "depression" - and he wasn't talking about my taxes. We were talking about Bear Stearns.
We've obviously got our own version of Nero in the Oval Office. And now, just minutes before the Asian markets open EST, Mr. Potter...er, I mean JP Morgan moves in to save George Bailey...er, Bear Sterns. I can just hear the BS execs: "Potter's not selling. He's buying. And why? Because we're panicked and he's not." Sorry - even as I write it, it's a mixed metaphor - there's no way the greed, hubris and arrogance of BS could be confused in any with George. And JP Morgan may in fact turn out to be the good guys saving us all from the next great "depression," but I'm not holding my breath.
But it doesn't negate the fact they stole BS right out from under itself. So in the fire sale, JP Morgan gets the deal of a lifetime - for a stock exchange that values BS (and I'm using that acronym on purpose) stock at $2 a share - down from $30 when the market closed Friday. I can't even do the math to figure out how much the company's value dropped over the weekend - from $3.4 BILLION to somewhere below $250 MILLION. A lot can happen in 48 hours. Big wow.
I'm sure I'm missing something huge - but from what I can gather, whatever Bear Stearns did - or didn't do -- it sure sounds alot like Enron: overvalued stock, large employee stock participation, exhorbitant salaries everywhere. Minus the huge Federal Reserve bailout of course. Is it me?

Where's your outrage, Hillary?
I ask myself that question every day. Well...maybe every other day. And I stand corrected re: my earlier post - it's not just his stupidity. I wrote that before the years of abuse were disclosed. And don't get me started about the age difference (Spitzer's 48, "Kristen's" 22) -- it sort of turns my stomach. Women everywhere should be outraged.

March Madness 2008 Underway
Attended my first Big East conference tournament today. Saw Villanova shut down Syracuse and a very tight game between West Virginia and Providence. Bring on the madness.
How Fitting
Former NYS Governor Eliot Spitzer's press secretary is Errol Cockfield. Cockfield, get it? You can't make this shit up.
Apples and Trees
Maureen Dowd says Obama was "outraged" over Geraldine Ferraro's comments. Who isn't?
Just saw that she stepped down. She never did know how to keep her mouth shut.
Just saw that she stepped down. She never did know how to keep her mouth shut.
Another Day, Another Blow Job
Now here's a story about sex to get outraged about. Not that I condone Spitzer's obvious addiction to prostitutes. But maybe it's the prostitutes that have helped him stay laser focused on busting up other baddies. Either way, if he resigns or is impeached it shouldn't be because of the whole sex thing. A man who made his career out of using the very tactics that the feds used to catch him is too stupid to remain in office. Or too complacent, arrogant, deluded. Those words work too.

Dream Team
I've always seen myself in a limited number of professions: homicide detective, newspaper reporter, online producer. But I think I've finally found my dream job: Levity Planner.

Say It Ain't So
Can't really speak yet about Hillary's winning Texas and Ohio. I just don't get it. How is this still a contest?
Cancer Sucks Big Time
I hate cancer. Of all kinds. But pancreatic cancer is the worst and my thoughts go out to Patrick Swayze and his family. Kevin's mom Marie died of pancreatic cancer in 1997. She was 66. She was diagnosed on a Monday and died one week later. Still hard to believe.

Not Better or Worse, Just Different
My first presentation in the graduate Education department at St. John's was about the differences in how boys and girls learn. Today's cover story in the New York Times magazine is worth the read.
